Sequoiadendron giganteum, or giant mammoth, is a monumental coniferous tree native to the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, known for its impressive size and longevity. In garden conditions, it grows up to several meters, forming a conical, dense crown with soft, blue-green needles.

It prefers sunny positions, sheltered from strong winds. In the shade it grows slower and loses its habit.
It is best to plant in spring or early autumn to ensure good rooting before winter.
It likes fertile, deep and permeable soils with a slightly acidic reaction. It does not tolerate waterlogged or excessively dry sites.
Young specimens require covering from frost and drying winds. Older trees are hardy, but it is worth protecting their root system with mulch.
