Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’

Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’ (Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’) is a striking ornamental grass, prized for its intense red leaves and modern appearance in the garden. Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’ is native to Asia and is one of the most decorative ornamental grasses. It usually grows up to 40-60 cm in height, forming compact clumps of narrow, upright leaves. In spring the leaves are green with red tips, and in summer and autumn the entire leaf blade turns an intense scarlet red. This makes the plant an extremely striking color accent in the garden. Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’ is relatively easy to grow, although it requires a warm site and fertile soil. In Polish climatic conditions it is partially hardy – in harsher winters it can freeze, so it is worth protecting it or planting in sheltered locations. It is perfect for modern arrangements, perennial beds and oriental gardens.
