Musa basjoo ‘Variegata’ is an ornamental, sparse variety of one of the world’s most hardy banana trees. The plant is distinguished by its large, broad leaves covered with irregular white and light green streaks, which give it a uniquely exotic appearance. Under favorable conditions, it grows to about three-four meters in height, forming a massive pseudo-trunk and spreading rapidly through offshoots.

Musa basjoo ‘Variegata’ grows best in a bright location with plenty of diffused light to accentuate the variegated foliage. It should be planted in a place sheltered from strong winds to avoid damage to the delicate, mottled leaves.
The best time for planting is late spring, when the soil is already warm and the risk of frost has passed. In colder regions, it is worth waiting until stable temperatures above 10°C.
The plant prefers fertile, permeable soil that is constantly slightly moist, but without stagnant water. The addition of compost or well-decomposed organic matter significantly improves its growth.
In colder regions, it is best grown in a large pot and overwintered in a bright, cool room.
